On the opening day of IBM's IOD 2008 conference in Las Vegas, Fred Sobotka was inducted into IBM's Data Champion program, a new honor bestowed upon IT professionals who have made exceptional contributions to the data management community. Fred was among the initial group of database experts nominated into this program, and he looks forward to continuing his contribution to the DB2 user community in various ways, including blogging, writing magazine articles, and volunteering at IDUG conferences.

IDUG 2010 North America Conference Planning Committee

Fred Sobotka has been invited back to serve for a third year on IDUG's North American conference planning committee, which is currently beginning its eight month effort to plan IDUG's next North American conference, scheduled for May 10-14, 2010 in Tampa, FL. All CPC volunteers are DB2 professionals, and they use their real-world DB2 knowledge to provide peer review for the hundreds of abstract proposals and technical presentations featured at each IDUG conference.

	DBAs may attend whatever conferences or courses are necessary for the job.
	Each DBA is limited to attend one technical conference or out-of-town course per year.
	The budget only allows one DBA to travel to an event, and then to share the materials with the rest of the team afterward.
